“大英帝国黄金时代”的伦理困境与伦理选择——论《法国中尉的女人》

摘　　要：英国当代著名作家约翰·福尔斯的著作《法国中尉的女人》以19世纪英国历史上享有“大英帝国黄金时代”之称的维多利亚时代为背景,反映了在社会伦理秩序丧失的大背景下,追逐自由和讲求责任的人们纷繁错乱的情感与异样的价值追求。本文拟运用文学伦理学批评方法,从维多利亚社会大环境下的伦理失序出发,分析于此伦理困境下男女主人公作出的伦理选择,解读作品背后传达的深厚伦理内涵,挖掘出小说中活跃于“大英帝国黄金时代”下新的道德力量的存在。同时,通过诠释福尔斯对追求自由的新伦理秩序的思考,彰显文学作品体现伦理和道德本质的文学伦理学价值。The French Lieutenant's Woman,written by John Fowles,a famous contemporary British writer,is set against the background of the Victorian era,which is known as“the Golden Age of the British Empire”in British history in the 19th century.It reflects complicated feelings and unique value pursuit of people who chase freedom and cherish responsibility in the context of ethics disorder.By means of ethical literary criticism,this article analyzes the ethical selections made by the heroes and heroines in this dilemma from the perspective of the ethics disorder within the Victorian society,interprets the profound ethical connotations conveyed by the novel,and dig out the existence of new moral force active in the“the Golden Age of the British Empire”.At the same time,by interpreting Fowles'thinking on the new ethical order of pursuing freedom,this article highlights the very value of ethical literary criticism that literary works embody the ethical and moral essence.
