摘　　要：戴国煇所谓“淡泊”和“矜持”准确概括了包括《美国见闻录》在内的叶荣钟著述的思想内涵和风格特点。“淡泊”代表着一种“民间”的自我定位和归属。在访美过程中,叶荣钟对“民有、民治、民享”的真正民主原则不断加以演绎和诠释,认识到“民主”除了制度层面外,还需落实于广大社会、民间之中,以消除人压迫人的背离民主现象;除了实施于本国本地区之内,也应在国际关系中展开,以避免大国强国肆意殖民、侵略、奴役、掠夺小国弱国。所谓“矜持”,代表着一种不卑不亢、公允中道的态度和力量,眼睛向下,聚焦民间,既坚守民族的尊严,又不盲目自大,自觉保持一种理智、冷静、科学的态度,对异域异族文化进行缜密的观察和实事求是的客观评价,以便吸取其经验教训、取长补短。Dai Guohui’s so-called“indifference”and“reserved”accurately summarized the ideological connotation and style characteristics of Ye Rongzhong’s writings,including the American Travelogues.“Indifference”represents a kind of“folk”self-orientation and attribution.During his visit to the United States,Ye Rongzhong constantly explained and interpreted the true democratic principles of“The government of the people by the people for the people”,and recognized that“democracy”should be implemented in the broad society and the people,in addition to the institutional level,in order to eliminate the deviation from democracy that people oppress people.In addition to being implemented in their own countries and regions,democracy should also be carried out in international relations to avoid arbitrary colonization,aggression,enslavement and plundering of small and weak countries by major powers.The so-called“reserve”represents a kind of attitude and power that is neither humble nor overbearing,fair and moderate,with eyes down,focusing on the people,not only upholding the dignity of the nation,but also not blindly arrogant,consciously maintaining a rational,calm and scientific attitude,and making careful observation and realistic and objective evaluation of foreign cultures in order to learn from their experience and learn from each other.
