摘　　要：《嘉莉妹妹》中的物发挥了强大的施事作用,充满了文学生命力。物不仅执行20世纪初美国社会的阶级分层,标记个体文化身份,而且作为“行动者”,影响或决定人物的行为选择和命运走向;作为“习惯之物”的摇椅在与主人公的长期亲密纠缠中获得生命活力,对人进行操控和潜移默化的改变。德莱塞借助“物的现实”揭示社会转型时期美国人的典型命运模式,反思“物的时代”人类生存困境。Things inSister Carrieconstruct meaning by their agency and are full of literary vitality. Things not only implement the class divisions of American society at the turn of the 20thcentury, marking individual cultural identities, but also function as “Actor” to influence or determine characters’ actions and decisions, thus rewriting their fate. The rocking chair in the novel as “a thing of habit”, gains vitality through long-term intimate interaction with the protagonists, and the power of manipulating and altering the subjectivity. Through the writing of things,Dreiser hopes to use the “realities of things” to reveal the typical destiny patterns of Americans during the social transformation period, and reflect on the dilemma of human beings in the “age of things”.
