摘　　要：沪江大学校址是美国基督教南北浸会精心选择的,选址过程充满困难和曲折。从1900年筹谋在中国创建大学始,至1902年才初步确定将大学建在上海。1905年美国南北浸会正式达成协议,开启联合办学进程。校董会实地考察多个地点,克服经费紧张困难,最终选定距上海市区6英里,距周家嘴1英里的黄浦江沿岸土地作为校址。所选校址因地势低洼,建筑需垫高地基,致使建筑费用增加;远离市区,交通不便,导致学校影响辐射力变小。但地价低廉,远离喧嚣,适宜学习和传教,且紧临黄浦江,在校园内对来往世界的轮船一览无余,这对学生具有精神激励价值,让他们能时刻感受到自己生活在一个“大世界”里。The American Baptist Missionary Union and the Southern Baptist Convention carefully selected the site of University of Shanghai, and the process was full of difficulties and twists. The plan to establish a university in China was made in 1900, but it was not determined to build the university in Shanghai until1902. In 1905, the American Baptist Missionary Union and the Southern Baptist Convention formally reached an agreement on joint education. After site visiting, the board of trustees overcame financial constraints and finally selected a plot of land along the Huangpu River as the campus site which extended about 6 miles in downtown Shanghai and 1 mile in the Piont. Because of the low-lying terrain, the building foundation needs to be raised, resulting in increased construction costs. The university is far away from the city, the traffic is inconvenient, resulting in a smaller impact of radiation. Though the selected site is cheap and far from the hustle and bustle of the city, it is close to the Huangpu River which has spiritual inspiration value for students because they can have a clear view of the ships coming and going and can always feel that they live in a “big world”.
