A Study on Zhang Yuanji’s Friendship with Pan Chenghou and Pan Chengbi with a Focus on Their Collaboration in Photocopying Ancient Books

摘　　要：张元济主持的商务印书馆古籍影印事业是现代出版史上的重要里程碑,其影印工作的具体过程,体现着传统士人向现代转型的内在特征。本文以张元济与苏州潘承厚、潘承弼兄弟的古籍影印合作为中心,依托双方往来书信、日记等文献,梳理和考证了其主要步骤:重叙旧谊、洽谈借印、草拟合同、借印善本、出版报偿,并揭示了双方交游的其他内容。此外,本文还推考了民国年间滂喜斋藏书的面世过程。The Commercial Press photocopying of ancients texts under Zhang Yuanji s leadership was an important milestone in the history of modern publishing,and the precise process of his photocopying operation embodies the fundamental traits of the transformation of traditional scholars into modern academics.This paper focuses on the collaboration in photocopying ancient texts between Zhang Yuanji and Pan Chenghou and Pan Chengbi.The paper relies on correspondence and diaries between Zhang Yuanji and the Suzhou brothers to organize and validate the main steps of their collaboration:renewing old friendships,negotiating loans to print texts,drafting contracts,borrowing and printing rare books,and publishing rewards,as well as other details on the friendship between the two sides.This article also examines the process of the discovery of the collection of books from Pangxizhai during the Republic of China.
