摘  要:李斐英是西南交通大学校史上第三位中国教授,也是第一位讲授英文兼社会科学课程的中国教授。作为“交大五老”之一,他所具备的学术学养、教学能力与风格与其早年在美国求学的经历有密切关联。1906年,李斐英赴美求学;1908年,在纽约州罗切斯特东部高中完成大学入学预修课程的学习后,就读于罗切斯特大学化学专业;1910年,转入雪城大学人文学院历史专业攻读本科三、四年级;1912年,通过雪城大学毕业论文答辩,获哲学学士学位。李斐英在美求学历时6年,所学专业及课程使他具备了深厚的学术素养和精深的语言学识,并为他在西南交通大学卓越的学术事业和教学生涯打下了坚实的基础。Fei Ing Li is the third Chinese professor in the history of Southwest Jiaotong University and the first Chinese professor teaching English and social science courses. As one of the “Five Admirable Seniors of Tangshan Engineering College”, his academic competence, English teaching ability, and style are closely related to his early experience of studying in the United States. In 1906, Fei Ing Li went to the United States. In 1908, he completed the prerequisite courses at East High School of Rochester in New York, and studied in Chemistry major at the University of Rochester. In 1910, he transferred to History major of College of Liberal Arts of Syracuse University for his third and fourth year of his undergraduate study. In 1912, he passed the graduation thesis defense of Syracuse University and obtained a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. Fei Ing Li studied in the United States for 6 years. His majors and courses have enabled him to have profound academic quality and profound language knowledge, and laid a solid foundation for his outstanding academic accomplishments and teaching career in Southwest Jiaotong University.
