摘　　要：克里斯托弗·马洛在《马耳他的犹太人》中成功塑造了犹太人巴拉巴斯和马耳他总督费尼兹两个迥然不同的“马基雅维里主义者”形象,前者代表了意大利马基雅维里主义哲学在早期现代英格兰社会的恶棍形象,后者则见证了英国社会在历史转型过程中的文化焦虑。无论是巴拉巴斯的恶棍形象,还是费尼兹总督的政治“权谋”,道德缺席问题均为解读该剧的关键。Christopher Marlowe creates two"Machiavellian"figures in The Jew of Malta,one of which bears witness to the demonization of the Jews while the other exemplifies the cultural anxiety of early modern England during its transition from a feudal system to a civil society.This paper argues that the lack of moral concern in the play is the key to understanding its depiction of both the Jewish villain and the"hypocritical"Christian.
