摘　　要：伊迪斯·华顿在《欢乐之家》中对共同体的理解不仅隐含于小说的标题之中,也反映在小说交错并置的三种共同体之中。老纽约共同体充斥着两性问题、种族歧视、拜金至上三大离心力;精神共和国共同体表面绚丽繁华,实则虚幻排外,两者都未能脱离狭隘的伪共同体本质。女工共同体互爱互信互帮互助,但其作为资本运作的齿轮,无法供养毫无生存能力的莉莉。对三大共同体的讨论和反思展现了华顿在理想社会构建方面的探索和思考,以及对社会弱势群体的关注和体谅。Edith Wharton’s exploration of community in The House of Mirth is not only implied in the title itself,but also reflected in the juxtaposition of three communities.The Old New Yorker Community is riddled with three centrifugal forces:gender issues,racial discrimination and mammonism.The Spiritual Republic Community is superficially gorgeous,but illusory and xenophobic.Both of them have failed to break away from the narrow pseudo-community nature.The Women Workers Community loves and trusts each other,but as a cog of capital operation,it can’t provide for Lily who has no ability to survive.The discussion of the three communities shows Wharton’s exploration on the ideal social structure,as well as her concern and empathy for the vulnerable.
