书面叙述语篇中“了_(1)”隐现的语篇架构动因--从述补式VP中“了_(1)”的分布说起  

Discoursal Construction Motivation of le,in Written Narratives:A Perspective from the Occurrence of le_(1)with Verb-Complement Phrases

摘　　要：本文基于三部第一人称小说语料,以述补式VP与“了_(1)”的共现规律作为切入口,考察“了_(1)”与汉语书面叙述语篇架构之间的关系,并对“顶峰事件”进行了再解释。研究发现,汉语书面叙述语篇中,“述补式VP+了_(1)”主要用于凸显故事发展中的关键峰事件,以及用于标记故事的点题、事件发展的结局和总结性评价等,“了_(1)”鲜明地表现出了完整体的语法属性以及语篇驱动的特点。文章指出,对“了_(1)”的研究应放大到整个故事语篇。Based on a first-person novel corpora,this article investigates the cooccurrence pattern of VP and ler to identify how ler functions in the discourse structure of written narratives in Chinese.Previous studies have found that leitends to be dropped when occurring with verb-complement phrases in Chinese written narratives.This study instead focuses on the relatively rare use of ler with verb-complement phrases to explore its function in discourse.Data from the corpus show that the use of ler with verb-complement phrases serves the functions to(1)highlight the pivotal peak events in the narrative progression,(2)provide an abstract of the story,(3)mark the resolution of the story,and(4)offer a summative evaluation.Here,the notion of'pivotal peak event'is proposed to supplement the idea of'peak event'proposed by Chang(1986),which originally only refers to the'final peak event'.In the current analysis,ler occurs in pivotal peak events that propel the development of narratives.The occurrence and function of ler align with the grammatical property of perfective aspect and clearly show that its usage is discourse-driven.This finding can also be used to explain the occurrence of lei with non-verb-complement phrases.Previous studies have discussed the factors that affect the occurrence of lein this context,such as the prosody of the verb,the types of situation verbs,the types of objects,and the progression of narratives.The current study confirms that the last factor plays the greatest role.Finally,this paper proposes that instead of limiting our analysis to single sentences,complex sentences,or run-on sentences,we should examine le in an entire sub-story which is defined as a sentence group composed of a series of events within a"space-time-character-behavior theme"framework in a macro-story.In addition,the article proposes that there may be a hyper influencing factor on the usage of ler,which is stylistic difference of narrative discourses,and we need to study this issue in terms of the co-occurrence of lexicon and gramm
