制度质量如何影响外资企业进入模式——来自中国设立开发区的经验证据

摘　　要：本文利用1979—2016年外资企业投资经营数据,采用双重差分法考察设立国家级开发区引致的制度质量改善对外资企业进入模式的影响。估计结果显示,制度质量改善能够提高外资企业以独资方式进入中国的可能性。这一结论在基于倾向评分匹配的双重差分估计(PSM-DID)和城市加总估计中依然稳健。进一步研究表明,制度质量改善的影响随着时间推移逐渐增强;制度质量改善对外资企业以独资方式进入的促进作用在契约密集型行业以及来自大陆法系国家的外资企业体现得更为明显。This paper utilizes the microdata of foreign-funded enterprises from 1979 to 2006 to examine the impact of the improvement of institutional quality induced by the establishment of state-level economic and technological development zones(ETDZs)on the entry mode of foreign-funded enterprises.By using the difference-in-differences(DID)method,we find that the improvement of institutional quality can significantly promote the possibility of foreign-funded enterprises entering China in the form of sole proprietorship.The results remain robust after using the propensity score matching-DID(PSM-DID)method and aggregating firm-level data at the city level.Further analysis shows that the influence of the improvement of institutional quality gradually strengthens with time,and the promotion effect of the improvement of institutional quality on the entry of foreign-funded enterprises in the form of sole proprietorship is more obvious in contract-intensive industries and foreign-funded enterprises from civil law countries.
