摘　　要：《大进军》是美国著名小说家E. L.多克托罗所著的内战小说。内战时期是美国民族身份建构的黄金时期。小说中的四位美国南方女性马蒂、珀尔、埃米莉和威尔玛的形象颇具代表性。在战争中,以马蒂为代表的传统女性无法承受战争的重压,而像另外三位一样的年轻女性则成功冲破男权社会和奴隶制的束缚,打破传统置于她们的刻板印象和标签。她们解决了自己的生存问题和自由问题,以“美国人”的身份展开新生活。与此同时,在现代性日臻成熟的19世纪,多克托罗赋予了三位年轻南方女性以反拨现代性隐忧的独特品质,站在历史的新纪元反思现代性问题并探讨如何走出现代性困境。The March is a Civil War novel written by E.L.Doctorow,a famous American novelist.The age of the Civil War is the golden age for the construction of American national identity.The images of four women in the novel,Mattie,Pearl,Emily,Wilma,are all representative of Southern American women During the war,traditional women like Mattie cannot bear the impact of war,while young ladies,such as the other three females are able to break the shackles of the patriarchal society and slavery as well as the stereotypes and labels that tradition has given them.They have solved the problem of survival and freedom,and begin their new life as"Americans".At the same time,in the 19"century,with the development of modernity,Doctorow has endowed the three southern American women certain qualities to counter the malaises of modernity.He has provided a solution for modernity in the beginning of the 21"century.
