The velocity demodulation method in the Photonic Doppler Velocimetry(PDV)does not perform well for weak Doppler signals. To solve this problem, the paper presents a velocity demodulation method for weak Doppler signals based on Livewire algorithm.By this method, the time frequency power spectrum matrix of short time Fourier transform is filtered by threshold to improve the frequency resolution. Then the time frequency curve is extracted by using Livewire algorithm to interactively find the curve contour with the speed information obtained. The experimental results show that for good test signals, the deviation between the demodulation result obtained by this method and that by the extreme maximum method is less than 2%.If the extreme maximum method fails, the method proposed in this paper can extract effective and accurate information from the weak Doppler signals, having good robustness for the demodulation of the weak PDV signals.
