摘　　要：查尔斯·哈维·布朗是20世纪美国图书馆事业的卓越领导人,著名的图书馆学教育家。在他50多年的图书馆职业生涯中,为推动美国图书馆事业的整体发展和进步做出了卓越贡献。布朗积极开展图书馆业务活动,从实践中系统总结图书馆发展的经验和教训,并在图书馆管理、馆员招募、图书馆危机处理以及图书馆合作等方面进行了深入的学术探索,形成了独具特色的图书馆学理论体系。时至今日,布朗为美国图书馆事业做出的一系列理论与实践探索依然具有重要的启迪意义与实践价值。Charles Harvey Brown was an outstanding leader and a famous educator of library science in the American library industry in the 20th century.During his more than 50-year career in the library industry,he has made remarkable contributions to the overall development and progress of libraries in the United States.Brown was engaged actively in library business activities,systematically summarized the experience and lessons of library development from practice,and made in-depth academic exploration in library management,librarian recruitment,library crisis management and library cooperation,forming a unique theoretical system of library science.Up to now,a series of theoretical and practical explorations made by Brown for the cause of American libraries are still of great enlightening significance and practical value.
