To investigate the impact of COVID-19 pandamic on the activity of light fishing vessels in Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea,in this study,we developed a light fishing vessels detection algorithm in this sea area based on VIIRS/DNB nighttime light remote sensing data, and extracted daily light fishing vessel point information from Nov.2018 to Nov.2020.The results showed that the number of light fishing vessels in this sea area decreased by 57.3%from Dec.2019 to Feb.2020 after COVID-19 outbreak. The decrease was larger in Chinese waters, amounting to-63.07%.The dense waters of fishing vessels in Qinghai fishing grounds,Haizhou Bay fishing grounds and China-Korea fisheries agreement water disappeared significantly.Korean fishing vessels moved to the west coast and waters of Jeju Island to operate. When the COVID-19 pandemic was under control, the number of light fishing vessels increased by 164.71%from Feb.to Apr.2020,and the coastal light fishery resumed and fishermen entered deep sea operations. The number of light fishing vessels in Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea recovered to 88.66%of that before pandemic control(Nov.)in Apr.2020.By analyzing the seasonal changes in the number of light fishing vessels,it was found that the number of fishing vessels in the China-Korea Fisheries Agreement water changed the most and the Bohai Sea waters changed the least. The COVID-19 pandemic mainly affected the lighted fisheries from Qinghai fishing grounds to Haizhou Bay fishing grounds, the China-Korea Fisheries Agreement water, and the west coast of Korea. The results of the study will provide a data base for monitoring and management of fishing vessel dynamics in the face of major public health events in the future.
