掌控技术:阿米什人与现代技术的关系及其启示

摘　　要：现代技术席卷全球,越来越多的人似乎丧失了选择和控制技术的能力。而阿米什人却与众不同,他们被称为技术的掌控者。他们对现代技术不是被动听任而是积极控制,对一些技术直接拒绝而对更多技术予以限制。比如拒绝使用收音机、电视、互联网,限制使用电话、汽车、电力、拖拉机、计算机。他们能够掌控技术是由于持有“与世分离”信条和“格拉森海特”精神这种特殊的价值观念。与其相容的技术可能会被接受和使用,与其不相容的技术必然遭到拒绝或限制。阿米什人的案例能够带来的启发是,价值观念是能与技术博弈甚至控制技术的一种力量。积极发挥价值观念的作用,可能促进人类社会更好地控制技术。Modern technology is sweeping the globe,and an increasing number of people seem to lose the ability to choose and control technology.The Amish,however,are different because they are known as the masters of technology.They do not passively accept modern technology,but rather actively control it,while they directly reject some technologies and place restrictions on others.For instance,they reject radios,televisions,and the internet,and restrict the use of telephones,automobiles,electricity,tractors,and computers.Their ability to control technology stems from their unique values of Absonderung and Glassenheit.Technologies that align with their values may be accepted and used,while those that do not are inevitably rejected or restricted.The Amish case can inspire us that values can act as a force to combat with technology and even control it.Harnessing actively the power of values may promote better control of technology in human society.
