柏格理在乌蒙山区的慈善公益事业

摘　　要：清末民初乌蒙山区的社会问题较为复杂,官方对于社会的控制力薄弱,导致教育、医疗卫生和鸦片问题尤为突出。柏格理在乌蒙山区传教期间,通过发展慈善教育事业、建立公共医疗卫生事业、劝阻自杀与劝禁鸦片,以及救助弱势群体等慈善公益活动,推动了基督教在乌蒙山区的传播,并在一定程度上促进了当地的社会发展。柏格理建立自给自足的慈善公益事业缓解了资金和人员上的问题,但由于在为社会服务深度上的不足,导致柏格理的慈善公益事业最终失败。In the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China,social problems in Wumeng Mountain area were complicated,and the official control over the society was weak,which led to the prominent problems of education,health care and opium.During his missionary work in that area,Pollard promoted the spread of Christianity there and,to some extent,contributed to the development of the local society through charitable and educational programs,establishment of public health care,discouragement of suicide and advice against the prohibition of opium admonishment,and assistance to the underprivileged.The establishment of self-sustaining philanthropy and public service alleviated issues of funding and personnel,but the lack of depth in social service led to the ultimate failure of Pollard’s charitable works.
