This paper shows that the market of everyday books went through a great expansion during the early period of 20 th century by investigating the publishing history of Guan Shang Kuai Lan(《官商快览》),the most popular everyday book in modern China.Guan Shang Kuai Lan is an annual invented by Jiang Xue Zhai for daily use.It was pirated or imitated by many lithographic presses in Shanghai, which shows that a new market was emerged because of the change of city life. This phenomenon also exposed that the lithographic presses were lack of creativity. On the other hand, the Commercial Press published many kinds of daily books on the basis of satisfying multiple demands from daily life precisely, which expanded the market greatly. The annuals as a special kind of periodical, attracted commercial and industrial capital to advertise.Through the transformation from piracy to original creation, and the combination of printing capital and industrial-commercial capital, print capitalism colonized the field of daily life effectively.
