摘　　要：亨利·詹姆斯在其小说《金碗》中用黄金来隐喻帝国探险者向外扩张的心态。在历史上,黄金一直与帝国向海外探索、发现与扩张的梦想紧密相连。从最早的欧洲帝国探险者到美国富翁亚当·韦弗,他们都有一个帝国扩张的野心勃勃的梦想。《金碗》中与金碗有关的联姻故事间接地反映了美国与欧洲帝国在世界舞台上的力量更替。In his novel The Golden Bowl,Henry James uses gold as a metaphor to indicate the empire explorers' expansionism.Gold has been related all the time to the empires' dreams of overseas exploration,discovery and expansion in the history of empires.From the earliest explorers of the European empires to the American millionaire Adam Verver,they all share an ambitious dream about empires' expansion.The marriage story related to the golden bowl in The Golden Bowl indirectly reflects the power shift between the American Empire and the European empires on the global stage.
