In this paper,a modular equivalent consumption minimization strategy(ECMS)framework for hybrid vehicles is proposed, which can realize distributed development of real⁃time control of energy management system(EMS).The approach is based on applying Pontryagin′s minimum principle to the ECMS optimal control problem. This allows the optimal control problem to be decomposed into smaller optimization problems related to each of the subsystems.Hamiltonian is introduced to coordinate the optimization problems related to each subsystem to the global optimum. The modular ECMS is demonstrated on a DHT hybrid vehicle that can operate in two electric modes,a parallel hybrid mode and a series hybrid mode. The results of real vehicle test show that the modular ECMS can solve the optimal control problem for each of these operating modes by only modifying the connectivity matrices of power balance equation in the EMS.Furthermore, this approach does not require the initial iteration of the equivalence factor, which is more suitable for distributed development of real⁃time control.
