The Pulitzer Prize for Drama was established in the second decade of the twentieth century in the United States to reward the creation of American original play-writing.It was the time when Eugene O’Neill and his contemporary American new generation of playwrights rose in the field of American theatre and jointly created the historic moment of American modern drama. From the colonial period to the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century,American theatre has been deeply influenced by European theatre dominated by British theatre. For a long period of time,European countries, especially British plays, have been the main fashion on the American theatre stage, and the level of creation of original plays in the United States has declined. After that. After entering the second decade of the twentieth century, with the rise of a new generation of American playwrights represented by Eugene O’Neill, dramatic creation in the United States has achieved remarkable artistic achievements. These playwrights not only won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in the 1920s and 1930s,but also became the backbone of modern American drama. The Pulitzer Prize for Drama boasts the purpose of rewarding American original dramas and reflecting American life,as well as its financial support for American playwrights. In fact,it has played a positive role in promoting and promoting the development of modern American national drama.
