西域地名重名现象之历史地理内涵解读

摘　　要：西域是一个历史地理概念,有广义与狭义之分。广义的“西域”指玉门关、阳关以西地区,包括今新疆和中亚、西亚、南亚、北非、中东欧等地;狭义的“西域”指天山南北以至帕米尔及巴尔喀什湖地区,实际略大于今日的新疆。古代西域,邦国众多,大多为游牧民族形成的部落或政权。随着时代的演进,由于气候、灾荒、战争等或渐变或突变的复杂原因,一些游牧部落邦国,或分裂,或兼并,或迁徙,或消亡,其名称(包括邦国名、城镇名等)常有变异更替,西域地区遂有地名重名的种种现象。其重名类型约略有完全重名、部分重名、虚实重名、异地重名、异体重名、异代重名等多种情形。深入考察西域的地名重名现象,可以进一步认知其中丰富的历史与地理文化内涵。The Western Regions is a concept of historical geography,which can be understood in broad sense and narrow sense.In the broad sense,the Western Regions refers to the area west of Yumen Pass and Yang Pass,covering a wide area;in the narrow sense,it mainly covers the area of today’s Xinjiang.In the ancient times,there were many states,most of which were tribes or regimes formed by nomadic peoples.With the evolution of the times and gradual change or abrupt change of climate,famine,war and so on,some nomadic tribes split,annexed,migrated,or died out.Their names(including the names of states,towns,etc.)often change,so there are various place names in the Western Regions.Many of them are duplicate names,partly or wholly.Through an in-depth study of duplication of place names in the Western Regions,we can further understand the rich historical,geographical and cultural connotations.
