摘 要:汤姆·斯托帕德与莎士比亚、王尔德等经典剧作家的亲缘关系已为人熟知,但古希腊喜剧家阿里斯托芬对他的影响却较少引起注意。事实上,在其作品中有类似于阿里斯托芬喜剧中歌队的角色。通过梳理阿里斯托芬歌队的特点,并与斯托帕德的角色相比较,可以明显看到,在其剧作中,也有作为一个群体参与政治讨论的角色,包括《好男孩都应受到恩宠》中管弦乐队扮演的“辩论评论者”、《爱的创造》中牛津大学教授和记者们扮演的“辩论参与者”。这些阿里斯托芬式的歌队形象,在剧作的政治讨论中起到了十分重要的作用。它们表达了斯托帕德的政治观点,是其参与政治讨论的独特方式。尽管斯托帕德没有像同时代的其他剧作家那样激进地表达政治观点,但他通过歌队隐晦地表达了自己的政治主张。Although it is well-established that Tom Stoppard inherited from classic playwrights such as William Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde,his connection with ancient Greek Comedy playwright Aristophanes has been less noted.Indeed,there are roles similar to the Aristophanic chorus in Stoppard's plays.By summarizing the features of Aristophanes'chorus,it is clear that there are also characters who involve in political discussion as a group in Stoppard's plays,including the commentator of debate played by the orchestra in Every Good Boy Deserves Favor and the participant in debate played by the Oxford professors and journalists in The Invention of Love.The roles of the Aristophanic chorus are important in the political discussion of the play,helping to express Stoppard's political views,which is a unique way for him to engage in political discussion.Although Stoppard does not express his political view radically like his contemporary colleagues,the chorus in his plays provides strong evidence of his enthusiastic desire to participate in political discussion.
