Beyond and Between:Rethinking Chinese Rhetorical Traditions in Comparison with Invitational Rhetoric

摘  要:西方传统竞争性、二元性、转变型修辞难以完全合理阐释人类的言语交际行为,一种推崇多样性、关系性、自决性的邀请修辞值得提倡。它所构成的独特观念来源于女性主义价值观,与中国古典修辞思想也有一定的关联。本文通过梳理儒家和道家思想中的本体论、价值论、知识论三个元理论假设,结合古典修辞文本的哲学诠释,探寻中国古典修辞实践与邀请修辞价值原则重叠的话语印迹,挖掘邀请修辞与中国古典修辞思想的内在联系。研究发现,两者在多样性与关系性这两个元理论上同频共振。本研究对推动中西修辞的交流互鉴有一定的启示意义。Beyond traditional competitive,dualistic,and conversional rhetoric,an invitational rhetoric that values diversity,relationship,and self-determination is advocated to better interpret human speech communication.The uniqueness of invitational rhetoric lies in its concepts derived from feminist core values,which may resonate with ideas of Chinese rhetorical traditions.Drawing ona philosophical interpretation of rhetorical texts in ancient China,we sorted out three metatheoretical assumptions in Confucianism and Taoism and traced rhetorical practice in ancient China with significance of invitational rhetoric,aiming to explore the links between invitational rhetoric and Chinese rhetorical traditions.It was found that invitational rhetoric and Chinese rhetorical traditions resonate well in terms of axiology and epistemology,because they both embrace a diversity of perspectives and share a view of regarding knowing as relational.This study may shed light onthe exchange and mutual understanding between Chinese rhetoric and Western rhetoric.
