摘　　要：托马斯·哈特·本顿的作品《今日美国》是由10件壁画组成的大型绘画,该壁画以其现代化景象为标志特征,视野从城市文化生活景观推向乡村的工农业景观,描绘了20世纪20年代经济发展期的国家图景。本顿通过描绘城乡风貌,记录了南北战争以来美国的现代化发展与建设情形,画作具有珍贵的历史文献价值。同时,本文也观察到这件作品是美国东北部的工商业精神逐步覆盖到西部和南部“发展中地区”的全景式记录。The America Today by Thomas Hart Benton is a large-scale painting comprising ten murals.Featuring modern life,the artwork depicts cultural life in urban areas and industrial and agricultural development in rural areas,presenting national conditions in the 1920s when the country was developing its economy.By depicting urban and rural areas,Benton recorded the development of a modern America after the Civil War,making these murals valuable for historical research.This paper also believes that the artwork provides a panoramic view for the aspiration of industry and commerce in northeast America gradually spreading to“developing regions”in west and south America.
