中英环境新闻报道中的概念隐喻对比研究——以《人民日报》(英文版)和《泰晤士报》为例

摘　　要：立足于概念隐喻理论和隐喻批评分析,对2021年1—6月《人民日报》(英文版)和《泰晤士报》中的环境新闻报道建立语料库,发现两个语料库中出现频率较高的隐喻均为战争隐喻、旅途隐喻、人类隐喻、疾病隐喻和容器隐喻,凸显了生态环境治理的长期性、复杂性、艰苦性。此外,通过探究中英政府对待环境问题的不同态度,发现中国媒体多用“建筑隐喻”来充分展现中国愿与世界各国和衷共济、共同迎击全球性突出环境问题这一挑战的毅然决心和大国担当;相比之下,英国媒体多用“竞赛隐喻”来体现英国政府对国内环保组织的不满和对中国为环保事业所作贡献的无视。最后归纳了概念隐喻在认知层面上的投射和构建作用,即概念隐喻具有阐释、评价、共情的隐喻功能。In accordance with the theories of Conceptual Metaphor and Critical Metaphor Analysis,two corpora have been produced with environmental news reports that were abstracted from The People’s Daily(English Edition)and The Times respectively in the first half of 2021.The study discovers that the metaphors WAR,TRAVEL,HUMAN,DISEASE,and CONTAINER are most commonly employed in both corpora,highlighting ecological and environmental governance as a long-term,complex,and arduous process.Additionally,by exploring the different attitudes of Chinese and British governments towards environmental issues,this study finds that the Chinese media uses the“BUILDING metaphor”to fully demonstrate China’s determination to work with the world to meet the common challenge of the global prominent environmental problems.In contrast,the British media used the“COMPETITION metaphor”to reflect the dissatisfaction of the domestic environmental organizations and China’s contribution to the cause of environmental protection.Last but not least,the study outlines the projection and construction functions of conceptual metaphor on the cognitive level,that is,explanation function,evaluation function,and empathy function.
