摘　　要：莫迪亚诺将自己归为渴望探索“大都市蜿蜒曲折的褶皱”的一类作家。他的作品扎根于巴黎,城市为写作提供了充分的想象空间和叙述滋养。不同于巴尔扎克笔下昭示19世纪资本神话“创造性破坏”力量的现代性之都,莫迪亚诺笔下的巴黎笼罩着有关战争、种族与身份记忆的阴霾,裹挟着城中的无名者们,于迷宫般蜿蜒曲折的道路和建筑群中、于迷宫般兼容混乱与秩序的清单目录中,摸索为历史与遗忘覆盖的个体和集体痕迹。记忆与身份的追溯过程已不复普鲁斯特式的直率与笃定。分岔、迂回往复的叙述线索,呼应记忆在面对历史话语的缺失时遭遇的迷失与挫折,也折射出作家为寻回记忆而倾注的经久心力。Modiano claims to be a writer eager to explore the sinuous folds of the metropolis."His works are rooted in Paris,the city that provides sufficient space for imagination and nourishes his narration.Different from Balzac's depiction of the city of modernity which demonstrates the"creative destruction"of the 19th century's capital mythology,Modiano's Paris is shrouded in the haze of memories of war,race and identity,enslaving the anonymous people who grope for individual and collective traces buried by History and oblivion in the labyrinth of winding roads and buildings,and in the labyrinth of catalogues embodied with chaos and order.The process of tracing memory and identity is no longer as straightforward and determined as that of Proust.The bifurcated and circuitous narrative clues echo the loss and frustration at the moment when memory encounters the absence of historical discourse,and also reflect the writer's persistent writing effort to retrieve memory.
