Endometriosis(EMT)is an estrogen-dependent gynecologic disease.Progesterone is often used to alleviate the endometriosis pain and shrink lesions because of its antagonistic effect on estrogen. Many endometriosis patients are resistant to the stimulatory response to progesterone, although the specific molecular mechanism remains unclear, and DNA methylation may be associated with the progesterone responsiveness in the endometrium.A number of methylation-sensitive genes are currently identified from the endometrium, which play critical roles in the maintaineance of the physiological functions of endometrium, and their abnormal methylation is often associated with the occurrence and development of EMT and infertility.Hence, further investigation of methylation-sensitive genes in EMT will help us to better understand the molecular basis of progesterone resistance and provide new therapeutic ideas for the disease.
