This paper analyzes the application advantages of fuel cell-based AIP system in the field of conventional submarines, and briefly describes the development history and current status of AIP technology for submarines in Germany,South Korea,France,Russia,India and Spain. The analysis results show that major military powers in the world have invested a large amount of research and development funds in fuel cell-based AIP technology. Many types of submarine such as 212A,214,218SG,and S80 have been successively put into service or launched, and fuel cell-based AIP technology has become the main development direction of conventional submarine power systems. In order to further improve the concealment and endurance of conventional submarines, fuel cell-based AIP technology presents three development trends:first, the fuel cell stack modules is developing towards high current density/power density;the second is the development of hydrogen source technology from alloy hydrogen storage to on-site hydrogen production;and the third is the development of fuel cell systems towards high power levels and high energy storage.
