This paper aims at the ceramic insulators widely used in areas with severe industrial atmospheric corrosion to examine the operating environment and surface pollution components, and then combines with the atmospheric corrosion data and makes comparison with the pollution composition of insulators in other areas with the same pollution grade. The results are shown as follows:The insulators in areas with severe atmospheric corrosion are more likely to have pollution flashover than those in other areas with the same pollution level. The corrosive factor in the air, even in a low humidity environment, will still form a thin liquid film rich in electrolytes on the surface of the insulator, cooperating with the action of metal particles to form an air ionization channel, and eventually flashover occurs. The research results help to optimize the current insulator selection strategy and also provide reference for insulator anti-pollution flashover measures in this environment.
