Margaret Atwood's disease narration involves a multitude of fields including medicine and anthropology.Take The Edible Woman as an example, this novel centers on Marian's eating disorder and an anthropological mirror description of"eating",and furthers the thought on the complex relationships of the themes of disease, power, gender and identity.Atwood not only focuses on the symptoms of Marian's eating disorder, but also describes the profound influence of the disease on her body, psychology and social live.By the in-depth description of Marian's inner world, the novel explores her relationship with her own body,as well as her struggle between self-identity and social pressures.Diseases are not only individuals'physiological problem, but also closely related to cultural, social and environmental factors. As a part of the culture and the society, health, disease and medicine also reflect the way the culture and the society recognize, view and treat the body.
