Patients with chronic pain are often accompanied by comorbid emotional cognitive disorders, such as anxiety disorders, depression and other neuropsychiatric diseases. It is currently believed that 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT)in the dorsal raphe nucleus(DRN)is systematically involved in the relief of chronic pain and anxiety, but the mechanism of its neural circuits remains unclear.DRN 5-HTergic neurons are able to form neural circuit connections with a wide range of brain regions, and its systems also have structural and functional heterogeneity. From the perspective of neural circuit mechanism, this paper will review the current research progress of DRN 5-HTergic neurons and related neural circuits that have been clearly involved in regulating chronic pain and anxiety-like behaviors.
