摘　　要：1923年10月8日,湘籍学者钟耐成偕新婚夫人陈妙贞在杭州蹈江自杀,引发社会广泛关注。钟氏遗书首先被公开,自杀原因直指曹锟贿选,使得该自杀事件被赋予强烈的政治符号意义。媒体跟踪报道,一方面塑造钟氏爱国为民的正面形象;一方面有计划地引导大众关注和批判贿选事件,完成对钟案的社会意义建构。文艺界将该事件推入消费环节,以钟陈二人为原型,编制戏剧、小说等文化产品,激发了大众情绪,产生轰动效应。各革命团体、亲友为钟氏夫妇举办追悼活动,使其为国事而死的形象获得仪式肯定。知识分子则对自杀行为是否具有社会价值展开论争,为我们了解民初社会和思想提供了契机。On October 8,1923,Hunan scholar Zhong Naicheng and his newly married wife Chen Miaozhen committed suicide across the river in Hangzhou,which aroused widespread concern in the society.Zhong’s suicide note was first made public,and the cause of suicide was directly attributed to Cao Kun’s bribery of votes,which endowed the suicide with a strong political symbolic meaning.The media follow and report,on the one hand,shape the positive image of Zhong’s patriotism for the people,on the other hand,guide the public to pay attention to and criticize the election bribery incident in a planned way,and complete the construction of the social significance of the Zhong case.The literary and art circles pushed the incident into the consumption link,taking Zhong Chen and Chen as the prototype,compiling plays,novels and other cultural products,which stimulated the public mood and produced a sensational effect.Various revolutionary groups,relatives and friends held memorial activities for Zhong and his wife,so that their image of dying for national affairs was affirmed by the ceremony.On the other hand,intel-lectuals debated whether suicide had social value,which provided an opportunity for us to understand the society and thought at the beginning of the Republic of China.
