Since the“Belt and Road”Initiative was put forward,China’s foreign trade has grown significantly, and in the process, green development is always the basis. After the goals of“carbon peak and carbon neutrality”were proposed,China has paid more attention to energy saving and emission reduction. This paper uses the Tapio model to study the decoupling relationship between carbon emissions and foreign trade of major provinces or cities along the“Belt and Road”in China from 2005 to 2020 and examines their relationship from the overall, regional, and provincial levels. The results show that, except for special years, the relationship between foreign trade and carbon emissions in the economic zones along the“Belt and Road”is mainly weakly decoupled, and shows a tendency of transition from weak decoupling to strong decoupling;from a regional perspective, the decoupling relationship of each region is better in the east than in the west as a whole;from a provincial perspective, the decoupling development paths of the provinces or cities represented by Chongqing and Shaanxi are worthy of reference.
