Based on the 2011 baseline community questionnaire data and 2015 national follow-up household survey and physical examination data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study(CHARLS),the paper analyzes the association between community environment and possible sarcopenia among middle-aged and elderly people aged 45 years and above in China.Hierarchical multivariate logistic regression model shows that better community support for the elderly and more organized community construction structure may reduce the risk of possible sarcopenia in middle-aged and elderly people, but there was no association between community recreational or living environment and the possible sarcopenia. The influence of community environment on the possible sarcopenia also differs between middle-aged and elderly adults.Good living environment and organized community construction structure are of greater important for the elderly to maintain muscle strength. Moreover, social activity participation plays moderating effect in the influence of community environment on the development of possible sarcopenia in people aged 45 years and above. The findings suggest the effect of community environment on the risk of possible sarcopenia among middle-aged and elderly people, and provide empirical evidence for promoting the building of age-friendly communities and aging in place.
