摘　　要：由于受到宗教哲学的影响,霍桑对人性和人类的生存问题有着异于常人的深刻见解。短篇小说《胎记》反映了他对人与自然关系的认识,也折射出他在宗教人性观的影响下,对人的本质的理解与反思。霍桑借《胎记》指出,一味地迷信科学,妄图僭越人类受造物的身份与自然分离并抗衡,必将导致自我毁灭。Influenced by the religious philosophy,Hawthorn has extraordinarily keen insight into human nature.“The Birthmark”reflects Hawthorn’s recognition of the relationship between man and nature as well as his understanding of human nature in the religious view.Through“The Birthmark”,Hawthorn expresses his concern for man’s overweening confidence in science.In his opinion,man is created and conditioned by nature,and any attempt to separate ourselves from nature or to conquer nature will lead to self-destruction.
