单语制下多语事实如何存在——巴黎舒瓦西三角语言景观实探  

The Existence of Multilingualism in the Context of Monolingual Ideology:An Inquiry into the Linguistic Landscape of the Triangle de Choisy of Paris

摘　　要：语言景观是研究多语现象的重要手段,公共场所中语言的使用情况往往可以揭示一个地区的语言生态。法国是一个单一语言制度的国家,然而,由于其吸纳了大量的移民人口,该国在现实中出现了一种意识形态上的单语制和事实上的多语制的矛盾。本文运用语言景观分析框架,以法国巴黎著名移民及后裔聚居区—舒瓦西三角的店铺招牌为语料,对该地的语言景观现状进行研究,通过对招牌上语言的数量、排列组合方式和功能进行统计分析,探讨在单一语言制度下移民区语言景观的特征。研究发现,得益于移民的历史和移民语言带来的商业价值,移民语言在舒瓦西三角具有明显的可见性。该地自下而上的语言景观具有语言种类丰富、民族特色突出的特点,但各移民语言之间数量、地位并不平衡。同时,作为移民语言之一的中文在舒瓦西三角承担了明显的信息功能。The linguistic landscape approach is a crucial tool for investigating multilingualism.Through the investigation of language use in public places,it can often reveal the language ecology of a region.France is a country with a monolingual language policy.However,due to the significant influx of immigrant populations,a contradiction exists between ideological monolingualism and practical multilingualism in the country.This article uses linguistic landscape analysis to investigate the dynamics of displayed language in the Triangle de Choisy,a renowned neighborhood in Paris of immigrants and descendants.Using shop signs as authentic language data,this article investigates the characteristics of the linguistic landscape of immigrant neighborhoods amid the ruling of the ideology of a monolingual language policy through analysis of the frequency of use,arrangement,and function of languages applied by the signs.Results show that,due to the history of immigration and the commercial value of immigrant languages,immigrant languages have significant visibility in the Triangle de Choisy.The bottom-up linguistic landscape of the area is characterized by rich language diversity and prominent ethnic features,but the immigrant languages are not equal in usage and status.Being one of the immigrant languages,Chinese has taken on a clear function in transmitting information in the Triangle de Choisy.
