During the late Ming Dynasty, the trend of discussing dreams in the jungle was prevalent.Although there were many discussions in the academic community, there was little mention of MuChen Dao⁃min. In fact,Daomin has extensively expounded and elaborated on dreams, advocating for a complete tran⁃scendence of the binary opposition between dreams and consciousness, and a direct understanding of the most fundamental nature of true suchness, thus returning dreams to the ultimate liberation problem of Zen Buddhism, forming the“Mengchan”method of discussing Zen through dreams and realizing Zen through dreams. This is the most unique aspect of his dream theory that sets him apart from other monks in the late Ming Dynasty. The idea of“Mengchan”has also been incorporated into poetry and literature by Daomin. He often presents a sense of disillusionment and impermanence,as well as a sense of coldness that compre⁃hends worldly affairs in his works. At the same time,he uses the imagery of“moon”and“clouds”and sen⁃tences from dreams to showcase the free and unrestrained poetic realm when fully understanding the body and mind. The“Mengchan”theory of Daomin philosophy combines dreams with meditation, and uses liter⁃ary creation to convey a unique understanding of dreams. It constructs an aesthetic paradigm that connects poetry and Zen,and integrates literary and Zen thoughts, reflecting a conscious creative consciousness and the essence of integrating the three religions. This is a prominent phenomenon in the late Ming Dynasty and deserves further exploration.
