摘  要:艾丽丝·门罗的中篇小说《逃离》历来被置于女性主义理论的阐释窠臼,评论者通常赞许女主人公卡拉的逃离,而对她的回归却颇有微词,认为这是对男权妥协的无奈之举。这种模式的解读忽视了小说更为丰富的细节和意象。要理解卡拉的逃离与回归,首先需要厘清自由不同层次的内涵。在西方文化中,自由除了指人身自由,还指在世的精神自由,卡拉的两次逃离是对无所束缚的人身自由的追寻,回归则意味着她将自由保留在精神的范畴,而担负起自己在世的责任。小说中小羊弗洛拉这一文化意象,一方面呼应着卡拉的命运,另一方面其拯救功能也昭示了卡拉回归的意义。Alice Munro’s novella Runaway has always been considered to interpret feminism theory.Critics usually praise the runaway of the heroine Carla,but they criticize her return and believe that it is a helpless compromise of patriarchy.The interpretation in this mode neglects the richer details and images in the novel.To understand Carla’s runaway and return,we should first define the connotation of freedom at different levels.In western culture,freedom refers to not only personal freedom but also freedom of spirit in the world.Kara ran away two times to pursue personal freedom without constraint.She returned,which meant she kept freedom in the category of spirit and took her responsibility in the world.On one hand,with the cultural image of the Lamb Flora,the novel echoes Kara’sfate.On the other hand,its saving function al⁃so shows the significance of the return of Kara.
