Heavy metal ions such as Cu^(2+),Pb^(2+)and Ni^(2+)can form complexes with certain organic molecules in water, including ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid(EDTA),citric acid, tartaric acid, and so on.Compared with the free ions, the heavy metal complexes have higher water solubility and environmental toxicity. They can exist in water with stable complex forms in a wide range of pH,making them difficult to be removed efficiently by traditional methods such as chemical precipitation. In this article, the recent advances in speciation analysis of heavy metal complexes in wastewater based on metallomics methods were summarized, the research progress of adsorption purification techniques in the treatment of heavy metal complexes contained in wastewater was reviewed, and the problems that need to be addressed in the above fields were explored and prospected.
