Local Market Size and Innovation Efficiency of Chinese Manufacturing Industry--Empirical Test Based on the Theory of"Demand Inducing Innovation"

摘  要:基于2001—2016年中国27个制造业行业数据,在测度本土市场规模和创新效率的基础上,运用双向固定效应模型分析制造业行业“需求引致创新”功能的发挥及实现机制。研究发现,本土市场规模扩大显著提升制造业行业创新效率,并且在中、高技术制造业行业及私营企业中的正向效应更明显。机制分析表明,本土市场规模对创新效率的正向牵引作用得益于“生产-分配-交换-消费”等国民经济循环的畅通。进一步分析发现,内生于本土市场的自主创新能力提升是双循环下制造业行业“需求引致创新”功能实现的主要创新范式。Based on the data of 27 manufacturing industries in China from 2001 to 2016,this paper firstly measured local market size and innovation efficiency,and used the two-way fixed effects model to analyze the performance and implementation mechanism of the"demand inducing innovation"function in the manufacturing industry.The study found that,the expansion of local market size significantly improved the innovation efficiency of the manufacturing industry,and the positive effect was more pronounced in medium and high-tech manufacturing industries and private enterprises.Mechanism analysis showed that the positive driving effect of local market size on innovation efficiency benefited from the smooth circulation of national economy,such as"production-distributionexchange-consumption".Further analysis revealed that,the enhancement of the independent innovation capability being produced internally from local markets was the main innovative paradigm for achieving the"demand inducing innovation"function in the manufacturing industry under the background of dual circulation.
