Lumbar disc herniation(LDH)is one of the main causes of low back and leg pain.Determining the level and degree of nerve root compression is of great significance for the clinicians to formulate reasonable treatment plans and evaluate prognosis.Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),as a non-invasive and radiation-free imaging technique, has become the preferred method for diagnosing and evaluating nerve root compression in lumbar disc herniation.Magnetic resonance neurography sequences can be used to study the anatomical structure and course of the lumbosacral nerve roots, while diffusion tensor imaging helps to understand the physiological function of the nerve roots. These qualitative and quantitative imaging features provide a more objective and comprehensive assessment, which can be utilized for the disease diagnosis and prediction of rehabilitation outcomes. Therefore, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the application progress of MRI in nerve root compression of LDH can provide important evidence for formulating the treatment plans.
