Infertility is reported to affect 8%-12%of couples of childbearing age worldwide, with male factors accounting for approximately 50%of the major causes or contributing factors.Low male fertility, including congenital, acquired and idiopathic factors, impairs spermatogenesis. In recent years, sperm acrosome enzymes have become a hot topic of research in the field of male infertility.Sperm acrosome enzymes may play an important role in sperm fertilisation and embryonic development.Sperm acrosome enzyme activity is a potential biomarker of sperm quality and male reproduction, which opens up new perspectives for the assessment of male infertility, and provides a reference for predicting the outcome of assisted reproduction treatment. In this paper,we reviewe the research progress of the correlation between sperm acrosome enzyme activity and male infertility from the perspectives of the functional role of sperm acrosome enzymes, their influencing factors and assisted reproductive treatment, thus further elucidating the clinical value of acrosome enzyme activity in the diagnosis of male infertility.
