AIGC technology empowers library reading promotion services, which can inject the core driving forces for the transformation from digitization to intelligence, and promote the high-quality development of reading promotion. From the perspectives of reading promotion practice and the development of smart libraries, this article examines the necessity of smart services in library reading promotion, builds a framework for smart services for library reading promotion, and uses GitHub and ChatGPT to deploy a virtual robot assistant in Tencent's QQ to provide reading guidance and consultation as a virtual librarian in the reading service QQ group.AIGC tools can be used as librarian assistants and can do an excellent job in assisting with text processing for reading promotion. However, the interaction effect is poor when dealing with“one-to-many”reader inquiries, and the ability to identify the authenticity of information is limited.Libraries should promote intelligent reading promotion services by embracing the concept of AIGC,establishing a reading promotion information database, promoting the capacity building of librarians, and advancing the development of scenarios that integrate AIGC with reading promotion services.
