摘　　要：玛格丽特·德拉布尔的处女作《夏日鸟笼》是二十世纪六十年代英国社会的一种折射。小说中的女性人物形象反映出当时英国国民的共同心态。“鸟笼”是战后社会变迁背景下英国国民共同心态的象征性表达,具有多重象征意味,主要表现为对于传统无法恪守又难以割舍的矛盾态度、“新女性”作为追求独立又遵循维多利亚价值观的矛盾体、“自由”观念的矛盾性。这些矛盾之间形成巨大的张力,蕴含的是二十世纪六十年代英国国民的精神迷茫与对秩序重建的期待,亦是女性成长焦虑的展演。Margaret Drabble's first fiction A Summer Bird-cage is a reflection of the British society in the 1960s,and the characters focally embody the common mentality of British nationals at that time."Bird-cage"is a symbolic expression of the common mentality of British nationals against the background of social change after the Second World War.It bears multiple symbolic meanings as following:the contradictory attitude towards keeping tradition or abandoning it,"new female"pursuing independence and adhering to the Victorian values,and the con⁃tradictory perception of"freedom".The great tension among these contradictions could imply British nationals'spiritual confusion as well as expectation for the reconstruction of social order in the 1960s.In addition,it is a per⁃formance of female growth anxieties.
