This paper investigates the influence of thickness on various aspects of plasma sprayed hydroxyapatite(HA)coatings, including porosity, residual stress, bonding strength, and wear properties. As the coating thickness increases from approximately 28μm to around 58.5μm,the residual stress turns from compressive to tensile, followed by a reversion to compressive stress. In the meantime, the coating bonding strength decreases from approximately 33.5 MPa to about 22.4 MPa.The wear mechanism of the HA coatings with various thicknesses is identified as adhesive wear, with the friction coefficient of the coatings remaining approximately 0.65.The coating wear rate exhibits a trend of initial increase followed by decrease as the coating thickness increases.Thickness influences coating bond strength by affecting the type and magnitude of residual stress, thereby impacting the overall wear resistance of the coating.
