摘 要:作为德州作家矛盾状态的一种典型体现,美国著名作家凯瑟琳·安·波特在其短篇小说中生动地塑造并刻画了三类不同的“恶母”形象。一方面,在面对生活中不可避免的矛盾时,这些“恶母”抛弃了社会传统既定的慈母标准,以抵制母性神话的姿态出现,显示出对孩子的冷漠和刻薄;另一方面,她们又服膺于传统社会的父权制意识形态,迎合占社会支配地位的男性思想和趣味,成为孩子心目中的“恶母”。通过这些“恶母”形象,波特意在揭示母亲身份自身内在的“母性矛盾”和母性实践中面临的两难处境,表达了对作为母亲的女性所处生存现状的深刻思考。Katherine Anne Porter, a notable American writer, vividly creates and portrays three types of “bad mothers” in her short stories, which represents as the typical “ambivalent” state of Texas writers. On the one hand, in the face of inevitable contradictions in life, these “bad mothers” abandon established standards of loving motherhood by being indifferent and mean to their children. By doing so, they resist the myth of motherhood. On the other hand, they still succumb to traditional patriarchal ideology, catering to the thoughts and tastes of men who dominate the social ideology. As a result, they become bad mothers in the eyes of their children and others around them. Through these images, Porter aims to reveal the inherent maternal ambivalence in all mothers and the dilemma they face in maternal practices. She also expresses her profound concerns about motherhood in modern society.
