Study on the Tie Luo Paintings of"Moon over Pine Tree Top"and"Crane and Deer"in the Prayer Room of the Eastern Warmth Chamber of the Hall of Mental Cultivation in the Forbidden City

摘　　要：故宫养心殿自雍正皇帝始至清逊帝溥仪止,是历朝皇帝们起居生活及处理日常政务的重要之所。其正殿面阔为三大开间,在每间阑额下设间柱2根,故外观呈九小开间,进深三间。室内根据三大开间分为明间、东暖阁和西暖阁。清雍正朝时,雍正皇帝依照使用功能,在东暖阁内搭建仙楼,并且分隔出不同的居室。乾隆皇帝登基后,完善了东暖阁的空间布局,将该阁分成前后两部分。Two Tie Luo(paste down)paintings-"Song Shao Yue Tu(Moon over Pine Tree Top)"(now known as"Song Yue Chang Chun Tu")and"He Lu Tu(Crane and Deer)"-are individually pasted on the interior of the northern Immoral Tower and on the west partition wall in the prayer room of the Eastern Warmth Chamber in the Hall of Mental Cultivation in the Forbidden City.Based on research,both were painted by painters from the imperial painting house Ruyi Guan during the Tongzhi and Guangxu eras."Moon over Pine Tree Top"was painted by Shen Quan.It was customized under the reserved dimensions of the wall,for the celebration of the 40th birthday of Empress Dowager Cixi(1874).The pine tree,the moon,and the covert crane symbolize longevity."Crane and Deer"was painted by Chen Zhaofeng.It was probably painted around the 21st year of Guangxu(1895)and pasted on the west partition wall of the prayer room.It is a landscape painting while also an auspicious painting expressing blessing and longevity.The two paintings show meticulous,neat,and realistic styles,reflecting the aesthetic preferences of the Qing royal family.
