摘　　要：厄德里克在2021年长篇小说《句判》中,以独特的语言策略,深入思考当代美国社会中族裔身份困惑、身份边界差异、协商和融合等问题。本文从小说的复调标题及其叙事意义出发,分析小说人物所经历的司法判决下的惩戒,以及他们在创伤记忆、幽灵、疫情和社会事件侵扰下的思考与应对。厄德里克在作品中应用真实的人物、空间和社会事件,在有意识模糊虚构与史实边界的同时,体现其越发积极主动的政治文化干预和反思的努力,而书屋的隐含空间意义则显然指向滋养情感、建构观念与获得救赎的路径的书籍和阅读。Louise Erdrich,the award-winning(National Book Award,2019)Native American writer published her new novel The Sentence in 2021.She continues her intense cultural and political involvement in this book entitled with an ambiguous word,as"sentence"contains both meanings of judicial penalty and a unit of language discourse.This essay analyses the first-person-narrator Tookie's imprisonment and traumatic memory relevant to her racial identity,together with her haunted experience triggered by the sudden death of the bookstore frequenter Flora.Erdrich herself as a minor character who runs Birchbark Books,witnesses the ups and downs throughout the narration,echoing actively with books'empowering and nourishing magics.Birchbark Books,the central space of spectral haunting,is also the locale for staging a profound history of cultural confusions,fusions and negotiations.
