Metabolic syndrome(MetS)is a group of clinical metabolic disorders including obesity, hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia and hypertension, which are significantly associated with the increased risks of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The basic etiology and pathogenesis have not been fully elucidated.Macrophage migration inhibitory factor(MIF)is a kind of pro-inflammatory cytokine and immunoactive substance, which is widely expressed in many tissues and cells of the body and is involved in the development of many diseases.MIF plays a role in the occurrence and progression of MetS by influencing the development of insulin resistance and chronic inflammation.MIF is expected to become a potential inflammatory intervention target to reduce the risk of MetS,and further clarify the pathological effect of MIF on MetS,which is of great significance for the prevention and treatment of MetS.
