Taixi,or sighing,a commonly used term in traditional Chinese medicine, first appeared in the Huangdi Neijing. It represents both a physiological phenomenon in normal individuals and a pathological manifestation, often referred to as shantaixi(frequent sighing) when symptomatic. While sighing is easily recognizable, ancient traditional Chinese medicine texts often provide only concise descriptions, leading to potential misinterpretations by later practitioners. This article delves into the multifaceted meanings of taixi, distinguishing it from related terms such as tanxi and daxi, through an analysis of interpretative and synonymous perspectives.Drawing from classical Chinese medical literature, clinical cases, and modern medical practice, the study explores the manifestation of sighing in conditions like depression, chronic cholecystitis, stable angina pectoris of coronary heart disease, and chronic non-atrophic gastritis.Employing zangfu syndrome differentiation, the article discusses the disease location, etiology, pathogenesis, and main symptoms associated with sighing, aiming to provide theoretical underpinnings for clinical treatment.
